Delegation from Turks & Caicos Islands PAC meet counterparts in Westminster and Scottish Parliament

Hon. Maxovonno Thomas MHA, member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Assembly of Turks & Caicos Islands, led a delegation on a visit to Holyrood and Westminster from 21-24 January for a capacity-strengthening programme.

In addition to observing evidence sessions of the financial oversight committees of the Scottish and UK Parliament, the four-day programme offered opportunities for direct exchanges with UK MPs, committee clerks and officials, representatives of the UK National Audit Office, and other relevant stakeholders.

These exchanges covered good practice around crucial committee work, including building strong relationships with audit offices, questioning techniques for evidence sessions and producing effective reports.

Hon. Maxovonno Thomas MHA stated:

“We are grateful to the CPA UK for arranging our visit to the Scottish Parliament and to Westminster to explore ways to enhance the effectiveness of our PAC.

The opportunity to interact with our counterparts in the other jurisdictions will provide a deeper understanding of how other financial oversight committees operate, the methods they use and the ways in which we might be able to strengthen our own financial oversight responsibilities.”
