Plans for Clerks Leadership Group Underway

Building on the success of the peer-networking 'leadership' groups established for Heads of Internal Audit and Auditors General, respectively, plans are progressing within the second phase of UKOTP for the provision of a similar group for clerks, recognising their central role in the facilitation of parliamentary business and procedure across the Overseas Territories.

Membership will be open to all Clerks of Legislative Assemblies/Councils and Houses of Assembly in the UKOTs. This will include the Clerk to the House, Deputies and Committee Clerks from respective territories.

It is anticipated that the proposed network will provide a forum to exchange knowledge and expertise, share best practice and learning and continuously improve on parliamentary clerk services in the OTs. Collectively, clerks will determine the structure of the group and determine specific areas of interest. Initial support will be provided by the UKOTP team in establishing the network with ownership to be taken thereafter by the members to ensure sustainability.

As we move into the new Financial Year and the project’s funding allocation is confirmed, we look forward to reaching out to colleagues to extend invitations of membership and consult on a Terms of Reference for establishing a clerks networking group.
